Conference Information

Fertilization of Douglas-fir and other species in the Pacific Northwest has been a common practice over recent decades. Research and operations have focused on nitrogen as the nutrient most limiting to growth. However, with many forested sites now in their third or fourth rotation, the possibility of other nutrient deficiencies has prompted some experimentation and limited operational trials. This program is designed to provide an update on the state of our knowledge about managing forest nutrition, starting with fundamental concepts of tree nutrition, soil science, forest nutrient cycling, and soil biology, and ending with operational experience on managing nutrition to maximize forest growth and vigor. Experts in the field will address both the maintenance of current nutrient capital and the correction of deficiencies through soil amendments, including fertilization.

Target Audience

Professional foresters from forest industry, family forest landowners, consulting foresters, and agency foresters
